This edition of Dance List picks up where Dance List 2 left off and continues through the last full week of December. As you’ll see, Nutcracker season is upon us, but there’s a lot going on that’s not The Nutcracker, too. Things slow down the week of Dec. 18 and will remain pretty mellow through early January. As the new year approaches, I’m already planning another “Top 10 Shows I Didn’t See This Year,” so stay tuned.
My next post for paying subscribers goes out this Sunday, Nov. 19, with my personal recommendations of shows to see. If you’d like to receive these every-other-week posts — and help me keep this project going — sign up for a paid subscription here:
Paid subscriptions are $5/month, $40/year, or any amount above $40 at the “extra boost” level. Thank you for your support.
If you’re interested in what I’ve been up to lately, writing-wise, scroll all the way down to “p.s.,” where I share some of my recent work.
A few notes for navigating this list:
The events are listed in order of opening date. Where listed as “through” a certain date, the event has already opened.
The list has two sections: performances (week by week) followed by a roundup of dance-related screenings, talks, and exhibitions.
* = free, suggested donation, or sliding-scale ticket options
^ = virtual viewing options
The information below is current as of the last time I checked, but things can change (and while I strive for accuracy, I will inevitably make a few mistakes). Please visit the event websites for up-to-date details and full date/time info.
Another extensive-not-comprehensive list will be coming your way on Dec. 21. Want to let me know about an upcoming show? Write to me at danceletter@substack.com.

p.s.
Here’s my recent writing. These are all gift links, so you shouldn’t hit a paywall:
I wrote about audio description for dance, and artists who are approaching it not just as an accessibility service but as a space for creative exploration. If you prefer listening, there’s also an audio version (at the same link), produced by Adrienne Hurst and read by me.
I reviewed Michelle Ellsworth’s latest at the Chocolate Factory (and took home one of her custom dish towels; if you read the review, that will make at least a little more sense). Also at the Chocolate Factory, I reviewed chemeckilerner’s Aging Prelude.
The French collective (La)Horde made its New York debut as part of the Dance Reflections festival, in two programs at NYU Skirball. I wrote about both, with a few words on the festival opener, Lyon Opera Ballet in Lucinda Childs’ Dance.
