Welcome back to Dance List, your extensive (not comprehensive) monthly guide to dance shows coming up in New York City — plus a few dance-related screenings, talks, and exhibitions. I’ve learned of some new late-October events since I last wrote, so this list begins with a couple of additions to Dance List 1 and continues through Sunday, Nov. 26.
If you’ve been enjoying this list or finding it useful, consider signing up for a paid subscription. You’ll receive additional posts every other week, with my more in-depth personal recommendations of shows to see, and you’ll be helping to sustain this project. Paid subscriptions are $5/month, $40/year, or any amount over $40 at the “Extra Boost” level. With enough support, I hope to realize some modest goals like…
compensating guest contributors who can tell you things like where to go out dancing (sadly not my area of expertise these days)
working with a graphic designer to create a new Danceletter logo/look
hiring an editorial assistant to help proofread and fact-check my work
publishing occasional longer-form essays and interviews
Here’s the place to sign up:
Thank you for your support!
A few notes for navigating the list:
The events are listed in order of opening date. Where listed as “through” a certain date, the event has already opened.
The list has two sections: performances (week by week) followed by a roundup of dance-related screenings, talks, and exhibitions (including virtual-only events).
* = free, suggested donation, or sliding-scale ticket options
^ = virtual viewing options
November brings the sprawling Performa Biennial 2023 to locations around NYC. I’ve singled out what seem to be a few especially dance-y events. You can find the full biennial lineup here.
The information below is current as of the last time I checked, but things can change (and while I strive for accuracy, I will inevitably make a few mistakes). Please visit the event websites for up-to-date details and full date/time info.
Stay tuned for another list coming your way in one month. Is there a show I should know about? Write to me at danceletter@substack.com.

The format of the list has been calling to me lately. Here’s a little something I contributed recently to Interlude Docs, a digital archive consisting of documents engaged with the theme of impermanence.
