Here it is! Your first monthly list of dance shows (and a few dance talks, screenings, and exhibitions) coming up in NYC. This inaugural edition of “dance list” (working title) hits all five boroughs, from the Snug Harbor Dance Festival in Staten Island to the BlakTinX Performance Series at BAAD! in the Bronx. It includes events happening tonight (Thursday, Sept. 21) through the last full week of October.
This list is not comprehensive and not trying to be, though as you’ll see, it is extensive! There is a lot going on (my own October calendar remains a puzzle), and I hope this gives you a broad sense of all that’s out there, dance-wise. For more on what I’m most excited and curious about in the weeks ahead, sign up for the paid version of this newsletter, which will come out every other weekend starting this Sunday.
A few notes for navigating the list:
The events are listed in order of opening date. Where listed as “through” a certain date, the event has already opened.
* = free or sliding-scale ticket options
^ = in-person and virtual options
For festivals, mixed bills, and multi-program seasons, I haven’t listed all featured works or choreographers, so be sure to click through for more info.
The info below is current as of the last time I checked, but things can change (and while I strive for accuracy, I will inevitably make a few mistakes!) Please visit the event website for up-to-date details and full date/time info.
Look out for another list (November shows) coming your way on the third Thursday of October. And as always, feel free to share this with anyone you think would enjoy it.
Happy dance-going,
Siobhan
