Hello out there! It’s been another long stretch between transmissions. This is just a quickie to share my latest story for the NYT, which came out in last Sunday’s paper: a profile of the prolific interdisciplinary artist and noted kvetcher / speaker of truth to power Miguel Gutierrez, who has three shows at three NYC theaters this spring.
You can read the story here, and if you’re curious about those shows, the first is this weekend, April 21-22, at NYU Skirball, where Ballet de Lorraine performs his Cela Nous Concerne Tous (This Concerns All of Us) on a program with For Four Walls by Peter Jacobsson and Thomas Caley. This was an extra-special one to work on, so I hope you’ll give it a read. The photo below is by Justin J Wee for the New York Times.
While I’m at it, some other recent(ish) work: on Faye Driscoll, Dean Moss, Ayodele Casel, and Bereishit Dance.
I hope to write more after wrapping up the spring semester, which has been a busy and fulfilling one — with a 10-day interlude spent driving across the country and hanging out in Joshua Tree, CA. For those following the development of Gigi (dog), she has now been with us for almost six months and did really well in the car. She’s also making great strides in socializing with other pups. Walking her is getting to be less stressful and more fun, as she learns to chill when another dog approaches and not to eat every scrap of garbage off the street. We are off for our morning walk now.
