I often add to Dance List as I learn of new events. To submit an addition or correction, write to me at danceletter@substack.com.
Back-to-school energy is in the air, the fall performance season is revving up, and Dance List is just a couple weeks shy of one year old! I’m very happy to have kept this going for 12 whole months. Thanks for reading, subscribing, and telling your friends.
If you find this to be a valuable resource and would like to help sustain it for another year, consider upgrading to a paid subscription for $5/month, $40/year, or any amount over $40 at the “extra boost” level:
As I already shared with paying subscribers, I’m switching up the paid subscription offerings to expand on the Danceletter Convos series I started in July. Beginning next month, paying subscribers will receive a monthly post that features an interview with a dance artist, teacher, curator, or someone else in the dance / performance world, plus a few shows I think you should have on your radar. (I’m bidding farewell, at least for now, to Danceletter Picks, the previous paid subscription offering; it was a good run!)
And remember, there is now a special subscription rate (25% off) for artists, freelancers, and students, which you can access at danceletter.substack.com/artist.
This month’s list covers Monday, Sept. 2 through Sunday, Sept. 29. For events through this weekend, see Dance List 11, which includes a few recent updates.
I always love to know how this project is landing with people. If you have feedback of any kind, or an anecdote about something you’ve discovered through Danceletter this past year, feel free to send it my way at danceletter@substack.com.
A few notes for navigating this list:
The events are listed in order of opening date. Where listed as “through” a certain date, the event has already opened.
The list has two sections: performances (week by week) followed by a roundup of dance-related screenings, talks, and exhibitions.
* = free, suggested donation, or sliding-scale ticket options
The information below is current as of the last time I checked, but things can change, and while I strive for accuracy, I will inevitably make a few mistakes. Please visit the event websites for up-to-date details and full date/time info.
Want to let me know about an upcoming show? Reply to this email or write to me at danceletter@substack.com. (To keep the workload of this project manageable, I tend not to list student recitals or showcases, as much as I appreciate them!)
When I have work/news of my own to share, you can find it at the end under p.s.

p.s.
I wrote about the dancing in Cats: The Jellicle Ball, the wildly popular, ballroom-meets-musical-theater reimagining of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats, choreographed by Omari Wiles and Arturo Lyons. The story, with amazing videos by OK McCausland, focuses on four dancers from the stellar cast: Baby Byrne, Dava Huseca, Robert “Silk” Mason, and Primo. Read it at this gift link or in print in this Sunday’s Arts & Leisure section.
The show is sold out, but if you can snag a ticket, I highly recommend seeing it, even if (like I did) you think you don’t like Cats; it could leave you feeling differently. I sat next to someone who got a same-day rush ticket at the box office, so maybe that is the way to go. And it’s so in-demand, something tells me it will have another life.
